The sky is full of helicopters but unfortunately there are too few suitable places for them to land. Hospital building programmes, uncertainty within the NHS about the long term use of hospitals and a lack of cash has resulted in delay and deferral and a serious shortage of helipads.
Only a small number of hospitals have helipads and a number of these require updating as facilities on the ground now seriously lag behind helicopter numbers.
The Helicopter Emergency Landing Pad (HELP) Appeal has been set up to raise the funds needed to construct these facilities and to ensure that all new helicopters have suitable helipad access in the future.
Our target is to raise £10 million within the next five years.
The first helipad has already been officially opened at the Oswestry Spinal Injuries Hospital and hospital landing pads that we are currently working on or are in the planning process are at:
The Queens Medical Centre - Nottingham
Leicester Royal Infirmary
Bristol Royal Infirmary
Birmingham Heartlands Hospital
Hereford City Hospital
